Revolve Energy proudly sponsored the Best Grid-Connected PV System Award at Aotearoa New Zealand's premier sustainable energy event SEANZ 2023 | Tomorrow's Energy Today

The SEANZ Industry Awards recognise the best and most innovative solar energy projects and businesses in the country. The Awards event was the best-attended ever and reflected the increased numbers at the two day event, the largest ever solar energy summit in New Zealand’s history with the inclusion of a utility solar stream alongside conventional commercial and industrial as well as residential focus.

Best Grid-Connected PV System

The Awards included Best Grid-Connected PV System, this year sponsored by Revolve Energy. The grid-connected renewable system must be connected to the national grid and include onsite renewable generation and it may also include energy storage and load control in the system.

Winner: Sunergise for Parliament House project

This year’s winner was Sunergise for their Parliament House project in Wellington which involved installing a 204-kilowatt grid-connected solar energy system to reduce load on the main switchboard, lower carbon emissions, and promote renewable energy.

The project involved meticulous planning and adherence to safety and quality standards. Integration with the existing Building Management System and backup generators presented unique challenges, requiring collaboration with various stakeholders.

The selection of equipment, such as REC TwinPeak Black solar panels and SMA Solar Inverters, was carefully considered to blend with the heritage building's aesthetics and uphold ethical sourcing standards. The installation featured bespoke-designed timber plinths and weather-tight membranes. Additionally, the solar system design seamlessly integrated with backup generators, vital for Parliament's continuity during grid outages.

Installing a solar energy system at Parliament House sets a powerful precedent for sustainable energy in New Zealand. This complex project not only met heritage and safety requirements but also showcased the potential for renewable energy on a national scale. It highlights the significance of government-led solar installations in promoting a sustainable energy future and serves as a testament to Sunergise's expertise and dedication to renewable energy solutions.

Runner up: ESolar for Tasman Residential PV System

In collaboration with their client, ESolar designed a comprehensive scope of work that met their unique requirements. It was to involve the installation of a ground-mounted solar system, preserving the aesthetics of their two-story home. The primary goal was to offset the summer energy consumption generated by both the home and Airbnb on the property.

Despite the property's three-phase connection, the client wanted to incorporate battery backup for enhanced reliability. To maximise solar consumption, hot water control integration was discussed, while also making provisions for future electric vehicle charging and expandable emergency circuit power, ensuring adaptability to changing energy needs.

Importance of design

It is really important that the PV systems are sized correctly and specified well to provide the best opportunity for them to realise the expected returns and carbon savings. Systems need to perform reliably and safely for their 30 year life. How well they are built is critical. This comes down to the solar system contractor, their staff and the manufacturers that support them.

It is our pleasure to sponsor the best grid connect PV award so that we can celebrate the great work that is being done to deliver ongoing value to customers.
